A full review of the quality control (QC) procedures for the Radiotherapy department’s six TrueBeam linear accelerators was completed in October 2020 by the Dosimetry team. QC procedures and schedules were redesigned to comply with recently published national guidance and the existing modular QC structure was further streamlined to accommodate the new and updated tests.

More than 80 QC documents were rewritten and uploaded to the quality management system (QPulse) and the online calculation and recording database (QATrack+) was updated to facilitate these changes.

As well as continuing to ensure safe and accurate treatments, this development aims to reduce planned downtime required for routine QC. This will help to increase treatment capacity across the department, therefore reducing delays to patient treatments. Dosimetry staff were able to complete this project alongside other key activities, including the commissioning of a novel new treatment unit and implementation of a department-wide in-vivo dosimetry system, all during the coronavirus pandemic.
